Storm Watch: Gazlowe

by - 10 years ago

Hello everyone and welcome to this weeks Storm Watch where we will be going over Gazlowe. Gazlowe is a ranged damage dealer that uses gadgets and lazers to get the job done.

Back Story

“Time is money, friends”, a saying all goblins live by and Gazlowe is no exception, or is he?

As a youngster, Gazlowe was a thief but managed to make enough coin through his adventures to start his own legitimate business. A business which boomed into one of the world’s most successful trading ports. Gazlowe manages the trading operations on Kalimdor in the town of Ratchet.

After the events of the Third War, Gazlowe was approached by Thrall to be the Chief Engineer in the building of Orgrimmar. He was tasked with finding a reliable water source in the dry, harsh climate of Durotar. Digging tunnels outside the city in search of an underground well, Gazlowe and his team ran into a den of kobolds, who flooded the tunnels and drove the goblin miners out. Gazlowe sent ,not yet champion of the horde, Rexxar to deal with the nuisance. Rexxar succeeded, and thus the glorious city of Orgrimmar had fresh water and plumbing.

Years and profits went on without much trouble. There was the occasional 99 year old port stolen by Mad Magglish and pesky pirates to the south but nothing questing adventurers couldn’t handle. It wasn’t until upset fire elementals laid blaze to Orgrimmar that Gazlowe was again asked by Thrall to rebuild the city. Settling on a price, which was lowered several times, the former Warchief departed for Outland.

Following the death of the beloved Cairne Bloodhoof, the treacherous Grimtotem tribe rose up to take control of the tauren city, Thunder Bluff. Cairne’s son Baine, sent a trusted ally named Stormsong to ask Gazlowe for aid in their fight to take back the city. The plan called for outrageous amounts of explosives and weaponry, as well as zeppelins to transport troops. Demands were met and Gazlowe received an enormous sum of money and very , very rare of a goblin, he gave some back as a gesture of respect to Cairne and his son. Gazlowe is keen to remain neutral for profits sake, but retains strong relations with the horde.

A sometimes caring goblin with a heart of “gold”

Talent and Abilities

Heroic Talent: Salvage. Gazlowe can pick up scraps of his old creations to regenerate mana and reduce cooldowns.

This is a pretty useful passive that will probably play a big role in helping sustain his resources for a longer period of time in lane or in a fight.

GazloweQSentries (Q)

Description: Gazlowe builds a turret at the target location. It will attack enemies within range. Gazlowe can have a maximum of 2 at a time. When the turret dies, scraps are dropped on the ground.

This is an alright skill as you can have 2 sentry turrets out. This skill isn’t a game changer but will probably be a skill that you will want to use as much as possible for that extra damage. Also, this skill is good for pushing lanes.

GazloweWLaser Blast (W)

Description: Gazlowe charges his laser. When he releases the laser, it fires, with its range and damage depending on how long Gazlowe charged his laser.

Gazlowes ranged nuke, this skill requires some timing and awareness to pull off correctly. The range and damage goes up the longer you charge it making Gazlowe into a ranged cannon who does not want to be in the thick of the battle. I can see this being a good skill for taking down town gates and nuking disabled opponents.

GazloweETNT (E)

Description: Gazlowe throws a time bomb at the target location. After four seconds, it explodes to damage and stun enemies.

This is an interesting ability as it stuns and damages enemies who are caught in it. A four second countdown makes this skill kind of hard to land so once again like his (W), you will need timing and awareness to get the full effect of this skill. If you land the stun, you can maybe get the other team caught in your (W) and make them cry.

Heroic Abilities

GazloweR1Charged (R)

Description: Allied creeps and monsters will deal increased damage.

I can’t really see much of a use for this other than lane pushing and destroying towns, as you will be empowering the creeps around you with more damage. Depending on the damage, I don’t think this skill will be much of a threat to enemy players unless they are surrounded by creeps.

Gazlowe R2Static Pull (R)

Description: Gazlowe throws an electro ball towards the target location, after a short delay, it explodes dealing damage and pulling enemies to the center.

This is a more team fight oriented skill as it does damage and pulls enemies to the center of the explosion. You could combo this with your (E) and (W) by throwing down your (E), then when they try to run away from it throw Static Pull on top of it for a double stun, then following up with your (W) when they are most vulnerable.

Conclusion

Gazlowe is a pretty standard ranged nuker with some utility that will require timing, awareness, and a good team around him to be most effective. Check back next week when we will be going over Naziba the witch doctor!

Gazlowe is a fairly conventional varied nuker with some application that will need moment, attention, and a good group around him to be most efficient. Come returning next 7 days when we will be going over Naziba the wizard doctor!
