Basic Theory On Hiding Your Egg

by - 10 years ago

The decision to have an egg is not one that should be made lightly. If you do decide to do it however, it’s imperative that you hide it and keep it safe from natural predators like Jim Raynor and Kerrigan. They want nothing more than to find your unsuspecting egg and smash it, thus preventing you from essentially being immortal. Where should you hide it? That’s largely dependent on what portion of the game you’re in.

Early Game

While not particularly inventive, keeping your egg within your base initially is never a bad decision. Sturdy gates and menacing towers will keep foes at bay, leaving you free to go about your fishy business. If you do this however, it’s important to pay attention to what’s going on. If an enemy team pushes down that portion of the base and crushes your egg, you’ll need to drop it somewhere else or face actual death!

EggBase

This position won’t afford you much offensive advantage, and it could very well slow down your Puffer Fish bombing missions, but hey, it’s safe, and that’s never a bad thing.

Midgame

The middle portion of the game is all about finding a clever spot on the map to hide your egg. You want to be able to fall, respawn and quickly make your way back to the target of your choice. While each map is different, there are some similar spots you should consider.

Tall Grass

EggBushes

Enemy players will not be able to see your egg unless they enter the grass. This can be incredibly useful if you find locations that are not generally moved through. Unfortunately, this is incredibly difficult on Blackheart’s Bay and Dragonshire, but it’s very doable on Haunted Mine’s and Cursed Hollow. Always look for obscure spots.

Vents

NOPEEGG

This will only be relevant while on Blackheart’s Bay, but never, ever put your egg in the vented, steamy areas, unless it’s the top area by the golem and it’s the early game, and even then it’s really risky. Most of the vent areas are passed over often, meaning your egg will almost assuredly get smashed. If you love your egg, avoid vents!

Late Game

Hiding your egg in the late game is really tricky, as it depends on your situation. If you’re being pushed hard and need to defend your base, you might just settle for having your egg within your own spawn zone. Again, not super inventive, but it will basically guarantee you do not die. Conversely, if you’ve got your opponents on the ropes, it’s totally worth it to place your egg aggressively. Hunt down some tall grass near the enemy base, drop your egg and cause havoc!
