MVP Black Sends a Message with Global Championship Victory

by - 8 years ago

MVP Black is the best Heroes of the Storm team in the world. There is no debating this fact.

MVP Black completely dominated the Spring Global Championship. Not only did they go a flawless 9-0 en route to the title, but also extended their undefeated streak in competitive play to 31-0. They are as close to perfection as we have seen in the short history of Heroes eSports. It was fitting that part of their celebration involved spanking each other with the trophy because that is what they did to their opponents throughout the tournament.

The final day began with EDward Gaming defeating Team No Limit 2-1 in a closely fought series. EDward Gaming made a statement of their own in this event. Their journey to the Finals began in the first group stage, and including victories over Negative Synergy, Team Naventic, and the defending World Champion Cloud9. They even defeated their arch rival eStar for the first time ever.

On the other side of the bracket, MVP Black went up against eStar for the right to advance to the Finals. eStar had been one of the favorites coming into this event, but they were no match for the eventual champs. MVP Black moved on to the Finals after yet another 2-0 sweep.

While EDward Gaming impressed a lot of fans with their showing in this event, the home crowd was clearly hoping for an MVP Black victory and they weren’t disappointed. Despite being swept by MVP Black in the Finals, EDward Gaming put up a strong fight and showed that they are worthy of consideration as one of the top teams in the world.

This was the first Heroes event to truly feature the world’s best teams and it showed in the play. There were several great matches, and even the matches that ended in sweeps often provided interesting games or narrowly missed comebacks.

GGWP to all of the teams and to everyone who helped make this event possible. Having an event of this caliber in the land where eSports were born is great exposure for the game. Hopefully this will draw new players into the Nexus, and create new fans of the competitive scene.

Congratulations MVP Black, long live the king!
